What fabrics to choose for a girl's christening gown?
Our girls' christening gowns are made from carefully selected materials for their softness, elegance, and comfort. We prioritize quality fabrics from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal to create sophisticated and comfortable outfits for little ones.
Most of our lace christening gowns are made with Calais lace, renowned for its fineness and timeless elegance. We also use Italian and Spanish laces, as well as delicate materials such as embroidered muslin, eyelet lace, soft tulle, cotton, or piqué cotton. Each girl's christening gown is fully lined with fine cotton to ensure comfort and softness for the baby throughout the ceremony.
Short or long christening gown?
The choice between a short or long christening gown depends on both the desired style and the child's age.
Short christening gowns, reaching the knees or mid-calves depending on the style, are particularly suitable for children who are already walking. They allow great freedom of movement while maintaining an elegant and refined look. Some models have a slight petticoat that adds volume and a beautiful drape to the dress. Short gowns also appeal to families who want a modern and less traditional christening outfit.
The long christening gown remains a great classic for religious christenings. Inspired by traditional old christening gowns, it evokes all the delicacy of antique lace models while offering more modern and comfortable cuts. Long gowns are particularly appreciated for their timeless elegance and symbolic character.
Christening gowns from birth to 12 years
Our collection of girls' christening gowns is available from birth up to 3 or 4 years for most models. Some ceremony dresses that can also be worn for a christening are offered up to 12 or 14 years.
This variety of sizes allows you to find an elegant christening gown for both an infant and an older child, especially for a christening celebrated later.
Completing the christening outfit
Christening accessories are essential to complete the outfit with elegance and symbolism. Christening bonnets and caps, traditionally offered by the godfather and godmother, are made from the same fabrics and laces as the gowns to create a perfectly coordinated set.
To complete the girl's christening outfit, you can also choose a christening cape, ideal for winter or mid-season ceremonies, as well as white leather or fabric christening booties. For older children, headbands or flower crowns add a delicate and poetic touch to the silhouette.
Who offers the christening gown?
The tradition surrounding christening gowns varies among families and countries. In some cultures, particularly in Portugal, it is common for the godfather and godmother to offer the christening outfit in agreement with the parents. In France, it is often the grandparents, godmother, or godfather who choose to offer the gown as a christening gift.
Many parents also prefer to buy their child's christening outfit themselves to preserve this precious memory and to be able to pass the gown on later. A christening gown made from beautiful materials can become a true family heirloom passed down through generations.
To preserve a christening gown long-term, it is advisable to store it away from humidity and light, in a cotton garment bag or delicately wrapped in tissue paper.
Christening gowns created in France
All our girls' christening gowns are designed and created in our workshop in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Most of our models are handcrafted in Europe in small batches, with particular attention paid to finishes and material quality.
Most gowns are available in stock for fast delivery within a few days. Some models handmade to order in our workshop can be customized according to your wishes: type of sleeves, collar, lace details, or finishes. These custom creations require a longer manufacturing time to ensure quality craftsmanship.
